Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider has spilled the tea, as the kids say.
“Lionsgate is plotting a new American Psycho movie and showing interest in a remake of The Dead Zone,” Sneider reported in The Insneider newsletter.
AMERICAN PSYCHO, the tale of murderous yuppie Patrick Bateman, began its life as a 1991 novel written by Bret Easton Ellis, which was turned into Mary Harron’s 2000 movie.
Christian Bale starred as Patrick Bateman in the hit movie, which still has fans debating a big question to this day: is Bateman really a murderer, or just a psychopath?
The film did spawn a direct-to-video “sequel” with AMERICAN PSYCHO 2 in 2002, starring Mila Kunis and William Shatner. This was an initially unrelated story that was turned into a sequel.
Who do you see as the new Patrick Bateman? I reckon Glen Powell would knock that out of the park.
As for THE DEAD ZONE, the story of a man who awakens from a coma to find he has psychic powers, it was first a 1979 novel from Stephen King that became a 1983 movie directed by David Cronenberg. Christopher Walken starred as main character Johnny Smith in the movie, and the King novel later spawned a 2002 TV series starring Anthony Michael Hall.
Jeff Sneider reports, “Roy Lee producing a new take that has Lionsgate very interested, as the studio’s TV department produced the USA series that starred Anthony Michael Hall.”
