Big day for Stephen King news!

Deadline broke both these stories – firstly that writer/director Mike Flanagan (DOCTOR SLEEP, GERALD’S GAME) is heading back to the world of King with an adaptation of The Life of Chuck, starring Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill!

“Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck is three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.”

Deadline also say, “According to the production, the genre project will draw tonally from STAND BY ME, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and THE GREEN MILE.”

Exciting right? And that’s not all!

James Wan’s Atomic Monster label is producing a feature film adaptation of King’s story The Monkey, which originally appeared in Night Shift.

Theo James leads the cast, with Osgood Perkins (BLACKCOAT’S DAUGHTER, GRETEl & HANSEL) directing.

“In The Monkey, when twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years.

“But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them.”

Wan said in a statement, “Stephen King is the godfather of the horror genre. He had a huge influence on me as a child and throughout my career and it’s always been a dream to help bring one of his stories to life. The Monkey is a personal favorite, with its simple, iconic, and incredibly marketable conceit. And I can’t imagine anyone better than a visionary and lifelong genre fan like Osgood to bring this to life.”
