ARGENTINE HORROR ON THE BIG SCREEN

We are partnering with INSTITUTE CERVANTES to bring you two exclusive double bill screenings of ARGENTINE horror cinema in November. All the details below:

Body, Destruction, and Death in Contemporary Argentine Horror Cinema

In these stories, bodies suffer, mutate, revive, resist. Fear is breathed in the vitiated atmospheres, in the landscapes inhabited by a spectral presence, in the bonds crossed by violence. The selection of titles that make up the cycle “Body, destruction and death in contemporary Argentine horror films” seeks to account for this aesthetic and thematic variety.

On the 8th November: TERRIFIED (2017) & BREATHE: TRANSGENESIS (2019)

Terrified (2017) dir, Demián Rugna

Synopsis: A series of paranormal events shake a Buenos Aires neighborhood: disappearances, dead people who don’t quite disappear, mysterious voices and strange murders follow one after the other while a group of investigators try to find an explanation.

Breathe: Transgenesis (2019) dir, Gabriel Grieco

Synopsis: Leonardo gets a job as a fumigator pilot in the soy plantations, so he moves to the countryside with his family. When he starts working, he discovers a dark secret in the town that will put him and his loved ones in danger.soy plantations, so he moves to the countryside with his family.

The Returned (2019) dir, Laura Casabé

Synopsis: In 1919 South America, a landowner’s wife is desperate for a child of her own, having suffered through multiple miscarriages. She finds hope, however, in a seemingly outlandish plan: She’ll pray to a mythical deity to resurrect her stillborn son. The plan works, but with the child comes something else, something evil.

Murder Me Monster (2018) dir, Alejandro Fadel

Synopsis: A rural police officer investigates a strange case in which a woman is found headless. The main suspect puts the blame on a legendary monster.
