We’ve not had any POLTERGEIST-related activity since Gil Kenan’s 2015 remake starring Sam Rockwell and Jared Harris, but fresh stirrings are afoot!
Variety reports that a POLTERGEIST television series is in early development at Amazon MGM Studios. There isn’t any further information on their plans at this time, though.
Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce on behalf of Amblin Television.
The original horror classic POLTERGEIST was released in 1982, directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg. JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson and the late Heather O’Rourke starred as a family besieged by supernatural terror in their suburban home.
The original hit was followed by POLTERGEIST II: THE OTHER SIDE in 1986 and POLTERGEIST III in 1988, plus the aforementioned remake in 2015. There was also the TV series “Poltergeist: The Legacy,” which ran from 1996 to 1999. The series tells the story of the members of a secret society known as the Legacy and their efforts to protect humankind from occult dangers.
