As the dust settles on another Grimmfest (thank you to everyone who came!), The Reaper’s rotten brain turns to future horrors which means it’s time for another trailer round-up!
First up, SCREAM meets IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE in the new Christmas horror from writer Michael Kennedy (FREAKY) and director Tyler MacIntyre (TRAGEDY GIRLS).
IT’S A WONDERFUL KNIFE is set in idyllic Angel Falls. A year after saving her town from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve, Winnie Carruthers’ life is less than wonderful — but when she wishes she’d never been born, she finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe and discovers that without her, things could be much, much worse. Now the killer is back, and she must team up with the town misfit to identify the killer and get back to her own reality.
Starring Jane Widdop, Joel McHale, Justin Long and Katherine Isabelle!
This is a Shudder joint, so is due to get a short theatrical run this winter before landing on there.
Shudder are also involved with NIGHT OF THE HUNTED, the new film from director Franck Khalfoun (P2, MANIAC 2012) which is due this month and looks bloody intense!
Set in the American west, the film follows Alice, played by Camilla Rowe, as a road trip turns into a fight for her life when a vengeful sniper targets her and traps her in a remote, isolated gas station. “An indictment of modern polarized politics, the film is a tight but brutal single-location thriller,” Shudder says in the official press release.
Based on horrifying true events, SQUEALER is the debut feature from co-writer/director Andy Armstrong and is coming our way from Lionsgate.
“When young women start disappearing in a small town, a police officer and a street-smart social worker follow clues to a remote pig farm, where they discover the local butcher has been bringing his work home. Enter the world of a serial killer and experience for yourself the bloodcurdling horror of a film that’s bound to take your breath away.”
Based on the acclaimed 2014 short film (watch that here!), NIGHT SWIM is the new one from Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.
This stars Wyatt “Son of Kurt” Russell and Kerry “Oscar Nominee” Condon as a couple who buy a house with a pool, and this pool turns out to be anything but relaxing.
Due in January, this is a perfect teaser and one can only hope the mystery remains right up until the moment we see NIGHT SWIM in cinemas!
Brandon Salisbury’s GEORGE A. ROMERO’S RESIDENT EVIL is due in 2024 – produced by Key 13 Films in association with Point Five Films and written by Salisbury and Robbie McGregor, the documentary provides a look back at what went down with Romero’s script for RESIDENT EVIL and Constantin Films back in 1998. This is described as a stylised documentary, utilizing archived footage, unearthed documents, and newly filmed interviews with a wide variety of personalities.
This is one of the great horror “what if?” events, and I can’t wait to see more on what was planned and what went wrong.
