“Somebody in this camp ain’t what he appears to be” – THE THING turns 40!

June 28, 2022 grimmfest

Can you believe it’s been 40 years since John Carpenter’s seminal classic THE THING was released?

By turns ignored and slated upon release during an epic sci-fi summer that included E.T., BLADE RUNNER, TRON and STAR TREK II: WRATH OF KHAN, Carpenter’s tale of the doomed men at Outpost 31 is now recognised as a stand out in the genre and one of his very best films.

We absolutely adore this at Grimm HQ and want to share the love!

(and whisper it, but your friend The Reaper has a major soft spot for the 2011 prequel)

It’s truly impossible to pick a favourite character or favourite scene (ok, Macready and the blood test/wait no the ending/wait the dogs/oh no the bit round the fire)

The film has inspired amazing art, collectibles, video games, board games, books and blu-rays!

The story of Macready, Childs, Palmer, Blair, Windows, Nauls, Copper, Norris, Bennings, Clark, Garry and Fuchs has captivated us for years and left us all wondering – is The Thing still alive at the end?

Well…

Why don’t we just wait here a little while, see what happens?
