The Bastard Love Child Of…Creep and The Descent!
Anxious to explore the mysterious hidden world under metropolitan Berlin, an international group young urban explorers hire a local guide to leads them into the city’s maze of escape tunnels and subterranean fortifications.
When their guide has an accident, two of the girls set off to seek help while Denis (Eversman), a young American, stays behind with his girlfriend Lucia (Nathalie Kelley). Soon, a former East German border guard named Armin (Stiglmeier) appears from nowhere and – out of sheer desperation – the pair must trust him to lead them and their unconscious guide to safety. However, it isn’t long before they realise they’ve made a very grave mistake.
Grimm’s Eye View: Ideal for those fascinated with derelict urban architecture and a perfect choice to screen at a venue that sits atop some of Manchester’s most darkest underground cityscapes, Urban Explorers combines claustrophobic thrills with blood-soaked kills. Here, the Berlin underworld makes for an effortlessly disturbing setting and director Andy Fetscher presents it brilliantly with deep shadows, sharp angles and general unpleasantness.
The result is a brooding cinematic atmosphere broken only by the horrific acts of brutality inflicted by a fascinating villain with a thirst for blood. The cinematography, tone, editing, special effects and acting are all first class and the film’s gruesome deaths will undoubtedly thrill gorehounds looking for their pound of flesh.
