Why you need to be there… An underrated classic on the big screen!

Having brought the original John Carpenter classic to Grimm Up North twice now, as well as screening Stefan Hutchinson’s fantastic documentary Halloween: 25 Years of Terror to delighted fans, we thought it was about time to show some love to the cinematic oddity that is the third installment in this series.

Grimm’s Eye View: After seemingly tying up the story of Michael Myers in Halloween parts I & II, it was thought that the franchise could be used to tell a new, eerie, holiday tale once a year. Each would tell a very different and unrelated story that would chill audiences to the bone.

Unfortunately, audiences were disappointed when this first movie in that planned series failed to make use of Myers, a character that had gained a cult following by this time, and the film didn’t do very well at the box office.

As we all know, the studio would bow to these wishes, bringing Michael back many more times in the years that followed – but one thing they could never do was eradicate this mishaped misfit from their franchise. Halloween III: Season of the Witch is an underrated classic – and we’re thrilled to be able to give it an exclusive screening as part of our 2011 bill.
