Director Fede Alvarez (DON’T BREATHE, EVIL DEAD 2013) is resurrecting the Xenomorphs and Facehuggers this summer with ALIEN: ROMULUS, which looks to return the series to the dark and confined spaces of Ridley Scott’s original.

“While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

We knew this new entry was set between ALIEN and ALIENS, being described as “an original standalone feature,” that “will focus on a group of young people on a distant world” and now Alvarez has confirmed the timeline.

He told Games Radar, “It takes place 20 years after the first film.”

“Technology in the world of ALIEN can change vastly, but I think it’s not dependent on time,” he adds. “It’s dependent on place. Where you are. So the characters of this movie and the world are very blue-collar. The technology is still very low-tech and analog. And, look, I’m a kid from the ‘80s. Any monitor with some VHS tracking issues puts a lot of joy in my heart.”

Alvarez notes in the same chat that ROMULUS takes place “decades before ALIENS” which was set in 2179. The original ALIEN was set in 2122, which must mean the events of this film are taking place in 2142.

Get your face hugged when ALIEN: ROMULUS hits cinemas this August!
